At just 19 years old, Brisbane girl Kate Nutting wears many hats – journalism student, author, successful blogger with her Pretty Dresses in the Laundry (PDITL) blog, and offshoot accounts on Facebook, YouTube and a fast growing following on her PDILT Instagram account, boasting over 13,000 followers.
Even though Kate’s blogging started off as a whim, it soon turned into a real passion, “I started blogging back in 2010 after a friend started her blog. I didn’t see the point of it at first, but I was hooked pretty much straight away.”
Kate further explains that her blog name, Pretty Dresses in the Laundry, came from an old wives tale that only pretty dresses leave the laundry clean. When you view Kate’s videos, read her blog, or follow her Instagram posts, it is very clear that she loves everything about fashion. It is this passion and her genuine approach that fuels her popularity in the fashion and social media arena.
Inspiration for Kate’s blog comes from everywhere. “I use events and holidays throughout the year, pieces of clothing, trends and Pinterest. Sometimes ideas just pop into my head in the middle of the night!” Kate’s other interests include a love of cooking, reading and writing.
Kate is also an author with a self-published book titled A Guide to Fashion Blogging. For budding bloggers out there, the book covers everything you need to know about running a fashion blog. Given the lack of current literature on the topic, Kate was inspired to write the book and drew from her own experience and learnings to develop the content.
So what does Kate like most about the blogging process? “I love it all, but maybe actually shooting the post. I like working with my brother to produce it and work out the creative process.”
When asked about her tips to aspiring young bloggers, “Just give it a go and stick with it! Utilise social media, be interactive and blog about something you love.”
Exciting project in the pipeline
So what does the future hold? “I’m in the process of getting started on a big project that I can’t actually disclose just yet. It combines blogging with my journalism degree and should be rather exciting!” says Kate. Personal goals include graduating at the end of this year, as well as getting this new “secret” project up and running.
With pending graduation, current PDITL social media blogging and posting, and a big new project to be launched soon, sounds like we will be hearing and seeing a lot more of Kate in the near future…can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings, so watch this space!
